About VERDICT
Reconciling fragmented public records, political networks, and campaign financing through reproducible evidence.
1. The Mission
VERDICT was established to solve a critical information failure in Indian civic discourse: the absence of a calm, auditable, and non-partisan repository reconciling public claims against primary statutory records.
In an era where political accusations spread instantly on social media, citizens, researchers, and journalists lack a structured instrument to verify what is actually documented, what is merely reported, and what remains an unverified gap. VERDICT exists to provide that reference architecture.
2. The Problem We Address
Public discourse in modern India is polluted by three structural distortions:
- Compound Inferences: The routine conversion of minor factual observations (e.g. past employment or social media replies) into grand, unproven conspiracies of secret funding or treason.
- Name Collisions: The reckless misidentification of unrelated citizens due to identical names in corporate registries or court databases.
- Collapsing of Financial Categories: Conflating a public announcement of legal aid with actual cash receipts, or assuming an organizational donation equals personal remuneration.
VERDICT eliminates these distortions by enforcing strict atomic claims, multi-token identity resolution, and tripartite record separation.
3. Core Values
4. Editorial Independence & Non-Partisanship
VERDICT is entirely non-partisan. We do not endorse candidates, rank political parties, or recommend policies.
We accept no funding from political organizations, partisan PACs, or government ministries that would compromise our investigative autonomy. Our methods are applied identically to all subjects under research, regardless of their political affiliation or ideological orientation.
5. Human-in-the-Loop Governance
While VERDICT employs an automated research fleet to query registries and calculate polarity contradictions, automated agents do not have permission to publish.
Every candidate dossier must be reviewed and signed off by a human researcher. Editors inspect source provenance, verify context, ensure privacy boundaries are respected, and check that no unsupported inferences have leaked into the draft.
6. Open-Source Rigor & Reproducibility
True accountability requires that the research methodology and evidentiary standards be open to independent scrutiny. VERDICT’s public schemas, data normalizers, and projection rules adhere to published open-source verification protocols.
Any researcher can inspect our schemas, review our audit logs, and test our methodology to verify that our published records adhere to our stated standards.
